The NA-YGN Core: Brent Williams

Brent Williams Brent Williams
Canadian Affairs Chair
williams@na-ygn.org

Brent Williams develops and upgrades the process models for the training simulators for Bruce Power's six operational reactors, with primary interest in thermal-hydraulics models including the Reactor Core Cooling Systems (read: Primary Heat Transport Systems for those of us in CANDU). His role includes providing technical support to Operator Authorization Trainers and Certification Examiners, as well as other site engineering groups using the simulators as part of their day -to-day work. He is also responsible for process model validation activities on these simulators, and has developed software that has automated substantial stages of the validation process.

Brent began his career in the nuclear industry in 2002. As a young person looking to secure a rewarding career in the industry, Brent joined the Young Generation Nuclear network in 2003. Motivated by his experience at IYNC2004 in Toronto, he was instrumental in spearheading the creation of a Bruce Branch of NA-YGN, and established a leadership structure representing over 500 potential members from across the Company. Following the successful launch of Bruce YGN, the group is evolving into a mature and inclusive organization with emphasis on public outreach and personal development. Together with his colleagues on the dynamic and motivated Bruce Branch Advisory Committee, Brent is making the Branch happen by developing strategy, implementing a program, and communicating the NA-YGN message to the 500+ under 35's at Bruce Power as well as securing support from the Bruce Power Management Team. With the growing enthusiasm for NA-YGN at Bruce, the Branch is looking forward to completing their first year and growing into the future.

Brent graduated from the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario Canada in 2002 with a Bachelors Degree in Engineering Science (Mechanical). He is a member of the Canadian Nuclear Society (CNS ), and presented technical papers at IYNC2004 and CNS2004 on training simulator validation. Brent is married with one son, and is expecting another child in late March.
