NA-YGN Makes its Entry into Virginia Teaching Teachers about Nuclear Toronto Professional Development Seminar | UPDATE ON IYNC 2002,DAEJEON, SOUTH KOREA
by Emmy Roos
The 2002 International Youth Nuclear Congress (IYNC 2002) is well on its way to becoming another exciting and successful meeting. If you are interested in making good contacts and great friends in the international nuclear science and technology industry, this is one meeting you cannot miss! Last April, the IYNC Executive & Advisory Committee held a meeting in Daejeon, South Korea, the host city of the IYNC 2002 meeting. The meeting gave the Executive Committee the opportunity to meet the Korean Young Generation network and the local organizing committee for IYNC. It also gave us a chance to visit the Daejeon conference as well as social facilities and accommodation. The Executive Committee decided the Technical Program at that meeting, and a call for papers was issued shortly after. For those of you who haven't submitted an abstract yet, now is the time to do so! We have extended the abstract deadline to November 14, 2001. Abstracts should contain sufficient detail to allow the technical merit of the paper to be judged. Details of the required format can be found at www.iync.org. In September 2001, the Executive Committee will meet in St. Petersburg, Russia, to continue the preparations. One of the special topics on the agenda will be the "IYNC Investigative Projects". At the IYNC 2000 meeting in Bratislava, Slovakia, the International Committee stressed the importance of staying active between meetings. Following that spirit, the Executive Committee launched three investigative projects, one on effective public information initiatives, one on international career opportunities, and one on waste management issues from a young generation viewpoint. Each of these projects is being performed on an international basis. The coordinated results of the projects will be presented during a special session at the IYNC 2002 meeting. We are still looking for additional volunteers for these projects. If you are interested in becoming more active internationally, this is the perfect way to do it! In October 2001, the first IYNC newsletter will be issued. It will contain articles from the younger and the older generation, as well as information on the young generation network activities in different countries. If you would like to find out more about the IYNC network, and/or the IYNC 2002 meeting, visit our web site at www.iync.org or contact me at eroos@etceteraweb.com. |
