- ANS Young Members Congress

NA-YGN and ANS Young Members Congress kicked off the Innagural ANS Young Professionals Congress, "A Hitchhiker's Guide to a Career in Nuclear," in Washington D.C. - ANS Winter Meeting and Nuclear Technology Expo: "Talk About Nuclear Differently: A Good Story Untold"

At this year's ANS Winter Meeting, NA-YGN in conjuction with Operations & Power Division organized a panel discussion titled "Bringing Value to ANS: Employers' & Young Professionals' Perspective" whereby participants were able to hear from various industry members on key issues with Technical and Professional Societies. The objective was to uncover and bring to light the "real" value of being an active participant in Technical and Professional Societies. - 2005 Women In Nuclear Conference:
Intercontinental Hotel, Atlanta GA
During the 2005 Women in Nuclear Conference, three NA-YGN members discussed the current climate for entering the nuclear workforce to 27 students attending the WIN conference. The presentation concentrated on workforce issues for the young generation and some specific pointers for young women entering the fields of nuclear science and technology.

This conference was held in conjuction with the North American Young Generation in Nuclear Mini-Professional Development Seminar. This ninety minute session featured a lunch, and was attended by 79 people despite being co-scheduled with the Women In Nuclear lunch being held across the hall. Walter Thompson (Business Development, Nuclear Safety Solutions) talked about his experiences in the nuclear industry, and gave practical suggestions on how YG's can capitalize on the forthcoming growth in the industry. Steve Hamilton (Vice President Areva Framatome-ANP Canada) presented on the North American nuclear market as seen by Areva, and his discussion on his career path complimented Walter's points on taking control of one's professional development. Mark McIntyre (Past Canadian Affairs Chair, North American Young Generation in Nuclear) presented on the Challenges Document developed by NA-YGN at the American Nuclear Society Winter Meeting in November 2004. He noted that it was the most important document ever produced by NA-YGN, and discussed a number of the suggestions raised that companies and YGs can consider in overcoming issues related to employee retention, professional development and other topics.
